Printer constantly disconnects from Mac

Almost every single time (without exaggeration) that I go to print something from either my MacBook or my iMac, the printer disconnects or takes a long time to print something.  This has happened printing from a variety of applications, most recently Adobe Reader.  I have rebooted the internet, the printer and the computer several times (and usually after each incident) - but what a WASTE of time.  I can't keep doing this.  Please help 🙂

Exactly. On my MacMini running Mojave 10.14.6

It just started this a week or two ago, and at first it seemed like it was an issue between Adobe/HP/Mac. My workaround was to open the document in Preview and print from there, which worked for awhile. Now that's not working, either. It takes FOREVER to print anything, and half the time it just quits printing and removes the document from the queue. I'm tired of rebooting everything. I also started getting memory low errors, but the memory isn't low. When I get that error message, there are no incoming or outgoing documents, just the one I'm trying to print. Then it just cancels the print job.
