Hi folks

I know this has been a problem with HP Printers for some time - can anybody provide an answer please - how do I stop my HP printers going off line?  When they do go offline is there any easy way of getting them back online?

I am suspecting you are connected via a wireless connection to the printer?  If yes....

You can try going to Control Panel-> Devices and Printers-> right click on the M477 print driver in the Devices and Printers folder and select "Printer Properites"-> click on the "Ports" tab-> seclect "Add Port"-> select Standard TCP/IP port->click "new port"-> follow the Port Wizard (enter the IP address of the M477 (print a Network Summary page from printer Control Panel if you need to get the IP address)->and finish the Port Wizard.

Your M477 should now be communicating over a TCP/IP port versus the WSD port.  See if that resolves your offline issues.

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Hi hoard_master,

Thanks for a very prompt reply.  I have been out at a meeting this evening and I returned to see what you have advised.  I followed the instructions, they were excellent and everything was as you have described.  I have carried out the alteration to the settings and I am now going to have to sit and await the result.  I will certainly let you know if the problem arises once again - I suspect it will not.  I will also follow the instructions in relation to my wife's MFP 277, which also had the going offline habit.

Many thanks once again for an excellent and comprehensive set of instructions - there really is one gem in the HP organisation (at least).

Regards
