I have two of the same printers.. HP LaserJet Pro M201dw at home and business.  Both printers worked well and then both showed the same error via different computers and are unable to print.  Here is the type of error they show on printed documents...

Content-Length:  185

Content-Type:  application/ipp

HOST:  localhost

*8263*G**attributes-charset*utf-8Httributes-natural-language*enEprinter-uri*ipp:/

The number can vary and the * represent different symbols.

This is all that prints when printing various documents with different computers.  I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but the same problem remains.

Thank you

Hi @dTphoto

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue where your HP LaserJet Pro M201dw printers are printing raw IPP protocol text instead of actual documents:

Step 1: Remove Existing Printer Drivers

  • Open Control PanelDevices and Printers.
  • Right‑click your HP LaserJet Pro M201dw and select Remove device.
  • Repeat for all instances of the printer.
  • Go to Programs and Features and uninstall any HP printer software related to the M201dw.

Step 2: Clear Print Queue and Spooler

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Print Spooler, right‑click, and select Stop.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside.
  • Return to services.msc, right‑click Print Spooler, and select Start.

Step 3: Reinstall the Printer with Correct Driver

  • Download and install the Full Feature Software and Driver package for HP LaserJet Pro M201dw from the official support site.
  • During installation, connect the printer via USB first to ensure proper driver binding.
  • Once installed, you can switch to Wireless or Network setup if needed.

Step 4: Verify Default Printer and Port Settings

  • Go to Devices and Printers, right‑click the printer, and select Printer properties.
  • Under the Ports tab, ensure the printer is using the correct WSD or TCP/IP port (not “Localhost” or “IPP”).
  • If incorrect, add a new Standard TCP/IP Port with the printer’s IP address.

Step 5: Test Printing

  • Print a test page from Printer Properties.
  • If successful, try printing from different applications (Word, PDF, browser).

Step 6: Repeat for Other Systems

  • Apply the same process on each computer that connects to the printer.
  • Ensure both printers are installed with unique names (e.g., “HP LaserJet Pro M201dw Home” and “HP LaserJet Pro M201dw Business”) to avoid confusion.

This issue typically occurs when the system sends raw IPP data instead of processed print jobs, often due to incorrect port or driver association. Following the above steps should restore normal printing.
