When I try to print from Google Docs, the printer changes the margins. If I save the document to a PDF, the size is correct, and I can open the pdf and print correctly from there.
Here is what it looks like if I tell it to print to PDF
And here is what it looks like if I tell it to print to the laserjet
You can see how it shrinks it down.

Hi! @Suzanne45, Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand when you print from your printer the print margin changes. But if you save it to PDF the printer print fine.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?
Have you tried printing a different application?
What is the paper size you are trying to print from your printer?
Have you checked you are on the correct paper size?
Which browser are you using?
Note that the on-screen view is not 100% accurate, whereas the print preview should be.
Also, have you set any paragraph indents on the ruler?
As you mentioned when you print from your printer the print margin changes. But if you save it to PDF the printer print fine.

Check the print settings for your print job in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista.
1.In the software application you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.
The Print window opens.
2.Open the Properties dialog box.
Depending on the software application, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
3.Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:
• Paper Type: If you are printing on photo paper, select the type of photo paper you are attempting to print on.
• Print Quality: If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality. These options typically include Best, Normal, and Draft modes.
• Paper Size: If you are printing on a different size of paper than you normally print on, select the correct paper size.
• Black and White: If you want to print in black and white only, select the grayscale option.
4.After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print.
