I have power cycled  the printer off/on but did not resolve issue.  Print job reaches printer and then printer shows message that it is canceling print job and then goes back to Ready state.

Well I have good and bad news!  I am now able to print!  I made so many changes and didn’t write down all my changes.
I removed the printer and installed printer again.  I installed drivers.

I changed the Port the printer was using.

I went into the printer’s internal maintenance program and selected Reset.  I think that fixed it.

i can print from local apps. Also print from websites and remotely from iPhone.  Many thanks for your suggestions.

Windows can cancel a print job without being explicitly asked by the user, usually due to errors, interrupted connectivity, or a malfunctioning print spooler service. Common causes include corrupt print data, a printer going offline, driver issues, or the spooler service stopping prematurely, all of which can force the operating system to drop the job from the queue.

Look in the event log for errors related to Wi-Fi or printing (print spooler)

If no errors then try a repair of Adobe or download the latest Adobe reader.  I assume you are using Adobe.

If errors then try a repair of the OS using the system file checker.

SFC and DISM are both tools that scan and repair corrupted system files. However, SFC uses a cached version of the files, while DISM uses the internet to download and fix the files.

Try the SFC first and if it gives a message that it cannot fix the problem then try the DISM tool.

Is word or notepad or any other apps failing?  if so I need the model of the printer to re-install or get the latest driver.

Is only one PDF failing?  Possibly it is corrupted.

please let me know what you find out.

Printer model is Laser Jet Pro MFP M148fdw.  Thank you for your response with suggestions to try,

1.  I ran the SFC routine as admin and errors were found and corrected.  I then rebooted.

2.   I then ran the DISM as admin and the routine hung up at 62.3% (I think) but later completed successfully buy itself.  I rebooted again.

3.  I've uninstalled and then reinstalled the printer.

4.  The drivers are up to date.

5.  At this point it time, NO print jobs reach the printer.  When you try to print, regardless from web or local app. the printer quickly acknowledges the print job then cancels it and returns to the ready state.

6.  I forgot to mention, I found that the Print Spooler was off.  I have since turned it back on without any change in being able to print.

7.  Printer is connected directly to the router via RJ45 cable.

8.  I bought the printer in 2017.

9.  I use Chrome as a web browser.  I have heard that chrome causes problems sometimes with printing.  However,  It shouldn't bother print jobs coming from local apps.

If you any other suggestions, please pass them along.  Thanks again for your first reply.

Something is misconfigured in windows. If your PC is made by HP and under about 6 years old consider doing a factory restore If you cannot get the windows to print documents.

Bring up "printers & scanners" and uncheck the "Let Windows manage my default printer"

Then select your printer,  the printer name that shows the "hostname".

for example, if you see

"HP Laserjet Professional CM1410 series PCL 6"

and

"NPI40CB07 HP LaserJet (CM1415fnw) default"

you would select the fnw one and it should be the default printer

note that NPI40CB07 is the hostname of my LJ and your printer will have a different hostname

after selecting you should see

Open print queue

Print test page

..etc..

Related support

make sure you can print a test page

If the print command completes but nothing is printed then look at the queue to see where it went or what might be stopping it.

let me know what you find out.
