Laserjet Pro MFP M277
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I'm experiencing an issue when trying to print partial sheets of cheques from within Quicken for Windows (Starter Edition).

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) and my printer is a Laserjet Pro MFP M277. The driver version is (I believe) 8.01.1320.2917.

The problem is that when I print a partial sheet (for example, the 1 or 2 remaining cheques from a sheet that originally had 3 cheques) I receive an "Unexpected paper size" warning from the printer (even though the cheque(s) printed correctly), and then another full sheet of paper prints out with the same cheques being reprinted (waste of paper).

I did *not* experience this problem with our previous printer, a Laserjet CM1312nfi.

I have tried creating custom paper sizes from within Quicken, but nothing seems to work. I simply want the printer to *not* print out the sheet a second time, even though there was an "short" page in the feeder for the first  cheques...

Oh, and Quicken has no problem whatsoever printing any other type of document (reports, etc...). Full pages of cheques print perfectly, and in fact the partial sheets print correctly as well - it's simply that the printer assumes that because there was a paper size mismatch, it needs to reprint the page that it thought was "mismatched" (even though it was intentional...).

Has anyone else experienced this issue and is there a solution?

Thanks for your help/suggestions...

Steve

Have you created a custom size on the printer itself? The behavior is consistent with the printing thinking it is feeding letter size, which it is not and then reprinting to clear the error. You can also check to see if the option exists to turn off automatic reprint in case of error. This setting would be somewhere in the embedded web server under system setup.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I hesitate to create a custom page size on the printer for 2 reasons:

  1.  I've already tried something through the printer driver and that didn't work.
  2.  Even if it had worked, it doesn't really solve the issue. For example: Printing 3 cheques with only a single cheque on the first page requires two sheets (total of 4 cheques). If I set the paper size to the size of the first sheet (ex. 8-1/2 x 5-1/4) then the printer will expect the second sheet to be the same size, even though it's a full-size 8-1/2 x 11 inch sheet.

I tried looking for any options on the printer's web server that might allow me to disable "reprint on error", but couldn't find any. I've even updated the printer's firmware to the latest available on HP's website (20190419), but couldn't find anything that seemed pertinent. The only option that seemed remotely applicable was System->System Setup->Jam Recovery, which provided options for "Auto", "Off" and "On".

I'd really prefer to be able to disable reprinting a page on error, and I never had this issue with my previous HP LaserJet (CM1312nfi).

I appreciate your suggestions, but HP's firmware is being uncooperative... ☹️

Another thought, have you tried setting the paper size on the printer to "any size"?
