I have been recently printing greeting cards.  I love the endless cards you can create.  I have printed lots of different cards.  However, using the same paper size and card stock my images will not now print correctly.  I sometimes waste a single card lining the image up perfectly, but today the image will not line up.  I have wasted 15/20 cards which are expensive and a full colour ink cartridge. Again, very expensive.  I am extremely upset because I  know what paper setting to use and where to place the image.  I cannot cantact anyone at HP and I am not prepared to keep using expensive ink when I cannot contact anyone at HP.  Can someone please help/advise who to contact.

Thank you for confirming that you have an HP Deskjet 2700 series printer. @Sbwr

We understand how disappointing this can be, especially when you've successfully printed many greeting cards in the past using the same cardstock, layout, and settings, and are now experiencing alignment issues that are resulting in wasted cards and ink.

Since the issue developed after previously successful prints, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Perform Printer Alignment

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools.
  3. Run Align Printer and allow the process to complete.
  4. Print a test card and check the image placement.

2. Verify Paper and Print Settings

  • Confirm that the paper size selected in your card-design software exactly matches the cardstock loaded in the printer.
  • Verify the paper type is set to HP Brochure Paper, Cardstock, or the closest available heavy-paper setting.
  • Ensure scaling is set to Actual Size or 100% and not "Fit to Page." HP recommends matching paper size and print settings to avoid positioning and scaling issues. (HP Support: Print settings and paper handling guidance.)

3. Test with Plain Paper

Print the same design on plain paper several times.

  • If the image shifts on plain paper as well, the issue is likely related to alignment, software settings, or media feeding.
  • If only cardstock is affected, the media feed path may be contributing to the positioning issue.

4. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Over time, paper dust and cardstock residue can affect media feeding accuracy.

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect power.
  2. Inspect and clean accessible paper-feed rollers using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
  3. Allow the rollers to dry completely before testing.

5. Print from an Alternative Application

If you're using a greeting-card program:

  • Save the project as a PDF.
  • Print using Adobe Acrobat Reader or HP Smart.
  • Compare the image position with the original application.

This helps determine whether the issue originates from the software or the printer.

6. Check for Driver Updates

Using HP App:

  • Check for any available driver or application updates on the computer being used.

Information Needed

To help narrow this down further, could you let us know:

  • Does the image shift in the same direction every time?
  • Does the issue occur on plain paper and cardstock, or only on cardstock?
  • Are you printing from HP Smart, Word, Publisher, Canva, or another card-making application?

Have a great day!
