When I try and print from my Mac to my HP color laser jet printer, I will often get several pages of “code” instead. Sometimes the image I want will get printed but usually not. Seems like to solve this I have to turn my computer off and then restart it in order to achieve the printing of the actual document or image I want. A big waste of paper, ink, and time.

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!

Updating the printer firmware, clearing the web browser Cache and Cookies may stop the printer from printing unexpected characters and text. You may use the steps available in the links below to clear the web browser cache and cookies:

Safari

Firefox

Instructions on how to update the printer firmware can be found here

Once you update the printer firmware, clear the web browser cache and cookies, restart router, printer and Mac. Check if the printer is printing unexpected characters and text.

Let me know how it goes!
