HP LaserJet Pro M102w Printer

I wanted to print from macOS. My HP LaserJet M102w was connected via USB, but although the printer was powered on and the computer recognized the connection, nothing would print.

I decided to update the firmware using HP's official utility.

The utility displayed "M102 Series Firmware Update" with a green checkmark, and my M102w was connected via USB throughout the process. The utility correctly identified my printer and provided visual confirmation with a green checkmark. It allowed me to proceed, automatically downloaded the firmware, and installed it successfully, again displaying a green checkmark.

However, when I tried to print afterward, documents were queued and sent to the printer, but nothing ever printed.

I then unplugged the USB cable, restarted the printer normally, and reconnected it. Since then, the printer has no longer been detected by any computer.

I've tested it with another Mac, a Windows PC, and a Linux machine. None of them detects the printer over USB anymore. It doesn't appear in any device manager or USB device list.

The printer still powers on normally, with the green Ready light and blue Wi-Fi light illuminated, but it is completely undetectable over USB.

I've also tried various button combinations and sequences supposedly used to perform a factory reset, including double-press sequences and different power-on/power-off combinations, but nothing has worked.

The printer was working before the firmware update. Immediately after the update, it stopped printing, and after reconnecting the USB cable, it was no longer detected by any computer.

The firmware utility reported a successful update, but the printer now appears to be bricked.
