Hi,
I use legit third party HP compatible cartidges that I buy on Amazon and that have always worked. Yesterday all of a sudden the compatible black cartridge started to give me error. I thought that it run out of toner. When I installed the new regenerated (legit) cartridge from the same Amazon provider I got error and the printer is stating "black cartridge is missinng" - which is not.
I have unplugged the printer, moved back to the old cartridge and went thorugh all the most common troubleshooting operations. Than I read on the inetrnet that HP has - without any notice - introduced the Protected Cartridge system. I would like to disable it, but I cannot locate any software to do this with my printer, nor a tab that allows me to disable it.
How do I disable the protected cartridge option?
Cheers

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you want to disable the cartridge protection mode. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
Follow the bellow steps to disable the protection mode.
- Open up a web browser and enter your printer’s IP address on the web address. Your printer’s IP address can be found on your printer settings by navigating your way to network setup options.
- This will open up the printer’s Embedded Web Server, click on the Settings option and to the left hand side select HP Cartridge Protection.
- Make sure you select Disable HP Cartridge Protection and click Apply or Save.
Refer the bellow picture.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. My laserjet is not wireless and it does not have an IP address. I tried a method that I found on the internet suggesting to go into the printer preferences and look for the tab relating to the cartridge protection, but my model does not have that tab.
I also looked into https://newsblog.ext.hp.com/t5/HP-newsroom-blog/Dedicated-to-the-best-printing-experience/ba-p/451 and tried to find an updated software. There's none .
Is there any orher suggestion on how to resolve the issue? I am not keen on throwing away the printer as I cannot use the legit compatible cartridges.
Cheers
