LaserJet Pro400 Color MFP
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a LaserJet Pro400 Color MFP (M475dw). I believe the previous owner may have had an interruption during a firmware update. When turned on now, it goes through the cycles and ends showing "Ready 2 Download". I've read that this is likely related to a firmware problem, and can be corrected by reloading it. I've followed all of the processes, manually reinstalling the driver, selecting a USB port, using a quality USB cable, plugging power directly into wall plug, clean shutdown & restart, etc... I've downloaded and run the HP firmware installation utility (M370_M470_colorMFP_Series_FW_Update-20150126.exe). Each time I run it, the printer shows a progress bar for a bit, then "Fatal Error 7", and then cycles back to the "Ready 2 Download".

It there a fix for this that a techie user can do, or is this printer destined to be "parted out"?

Thanks in advance!!!

You may need to contact HP to see if you can get an RFU file for firmware instead of the easy firmware update. This allows you to send the firmware and if  it is on the wrong port then you can change to try a USB port until you find the right one.

Thanks Repairatrooper for responding! I assumed that the printer responding by showing the progress bar meant that it was definitely using the right port. Is that not necessarily so?  Also, what route do you recommend  I use to contact HP support for the file?

Can you confirm which printer you have? You state you have a 45 something but the firmware you show was for a multifunction product and that might be the cause of the problem if you try to install the wrong software.

The printer front panel label says LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP  M475dw. The HP Support web page at https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-400-color-mfp-m475/4337543 says the Firmware for it is  370_M470_colorMFP_Series_FW_Update-20150126.exe

It would really be nice if the problem was me grabbing the wrong firmware package 🙂

I just noticed that I left out a number in the Model number. Its Pro400 Color MFP (M475dw)
