Problem: The printer started to apply a 2.5” horizontal magenta line on the right-hand side of the page only appearing when printing color documents. The horizontal magenta line occurred repetitively with each line approximately 1” apart. When printing in black & white no magenta line was present. The cartridge was HP OEM (it was supplied with the printer). The printer indicated 80% of the cartridge remained and 858 pages had been printed using the magenta cartridge.
Contacting HP: I contacted HP support via Chat and described the problem. I provided sample printouts via e-mail to an engineer along with the Supplies Status page from the printer. I tried several troubleshooting steps and cleaning procedures supplied by HP in YouTube videos. The engineer determined the magenta cartridge was defective, but the printer was out of warranty. I requested HP replace the Magenta Cartridge 410A (CF413A) under the warranty for the cartridge. The cartridge and printer warranties are separate.
Resolution: HP shipped a warranty replacement magenta cartridge. Upon installation the horizontal magenta lines disappeared.
