Hi, how do I retrieve the print jobs stored inside the laser jet printer? I noticed from the web management console that there is an internal hard disk containing directories like \browser, \files etc. How do I access these folders to retrieve my print jobs using administrator access?

Jobs are not stored on the printer, data on the hard drive are used for printers system ( operating system) and they are encrypted, there is nothing interested in the hard drive for an administrator/user.

I don't want to print it out as paper copy as I need to recover the softcopies from the printer storage because my original softcopies are gone with my faulty laptop.

If you have turned ON job storage before printing then it's possible to reprint job, but accessing the actual file on the printer hard drive and copying back to the computer could be hard.

Jason,

I would start with HP's own Web JetAdmin 10 software.

I know in the 'Devices' tab that it will show stored print jobs.  I don't know whether it will allow you to  'Save to File' as it will with a stored Font or Macro, though.

Not knowing your level of comfort with computers and command line utilities, I'm reluctant to mention this, but the Printer Exploitation Toolkit (PRET) will allow you to retrieve those files. You can do a Google search for it if you're interested. I'm not so sure that HP is thrilled about these type things being available, as they can be used for nefarious purposes. Thus, I will not link it here.

Obviously, your purpose is legitimate and if you need those files, perhaps PRET will help you.

Finally, I realize that you want these job files for backup, but I'm not sure how useful they'll be to you in the format that you'll find them.

Good luck.
