MFP 477fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased a new MFP 477fdw AIO.  Upon startup, it immediately made a loud clack.  It has not done that since.  I tried printing a few things, from  on-line printer forms to content from my computer.  Every time, while the printer is running, just before paper is picked up and for perhaps 8 - 9 seconds after the print is spit out, I hear things whirring inside, but also hear something "ka-click" sound, like something that is revolving is making a ticking noise on every revolution (a little more frequent than 2x a second).  It is not loud.

I visited a store and ran a 477fnw.  It made no such noise that I could hear.  My unit is not loud at all, but I definitely hear the rythmic "kc-chik" on my machine.  It is  from the rear of the unit.  Is this normal, or...?  I recorded the noise, but do not believe I can attach the file here.  It is about half a meg.  It is definitely audible on the recording.  If someone wants to hear it, I can e-mail the file.

I lifted toner cartridges out and reseated, but no change.  I checked the paper tray.  I have not done anything else.

Thank you.

Phil

Hi @Phil-3,

The first loud noise is normal. But the other noises that you can still hear every time your print something aren't. I suggest that since this is a new printer, you make use of its warranty and return it.

Cheers!

Hi,

I contacted HP Support Chat, and they told me to take all toners out, power on printer to see if it made noise.  This kept something spinning inside the printer continously, and it made the same noise.  With that, HP said to return the printer.  I did, and should have another here in 2 - 3 days.  Hopefully, without the noise.

Thank you.

Phil
