Hello, I've seen similar postings of the same issue but none with a solution. The closest one is this: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/How-to-fix-missing-quot-scan-to-computer-quot-touchsc...
Problem: We have a brand new printer that we've setup. During the setup process, on the touch screen, it provided the message to "Scan to Computer". We used the option to ensure it worked and went to the computer we wanted. We restarted the printer, and now the option is gone! The option "Scan to Computer" has totally disappeared. Where there used to be a touch screen button / option, no longer exists.
Printer: HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fnw
OS: Mac OS X 10.8.xx
I've downloaded the firmware update, but that does not want to run either. I've tried using the Check for Updates from the printer's touch screen panel, it can never connect. I have it connected to the internet, I've plugged it directly into a hardline, still no connection. I literally just bought this printer yesterday, with a 2 year service plan, drove an hour to the next closest store that had it in stock, and it is giving me nothing but problems.
I've unplugged and waited a minute.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and software from my computer.
I'm out of ideas.

Hello @Anonymous
If you referred to the scan to computer icon or option after pressing on the scan icon on the printer itself that one was discontinued by HP since it had so many issues with that like on some devices will only scan from flatbed and not ADF.
If you notice you still have the other options like scan to usb drive, scan to email or scan to network folder that on the printer itselft beside the HP scan app on the PC for windows and mac
Newer devices are not supposed to have that option on the first place and the firmware and normal updates will remove that from older devices that have it
There were some M477 that were sold to vendors when it first came out that had that but as soon as it gets the first update it will be removed
hope this clarifies the issue

Hello @Reskape
I appreciate your reply. It sounds like, we saw and used the feature as a fluke from the initial setup. Restarting the printer may have applied an update, and now the button is no longer there because it was never supposed to be there.
Well that sucks. We are replacing an older HP printer that had this option and we used it all the time. We also have a new Canon printer but that thing goes through ink like you wouldn't believe, which is why we got this new HP and moved the Canon to a different location.
Yes, I do still see the other "Scan to" options. The next best thing will be the network drive.
If that's the answer then that's the answer. I appreciate the help.
Do any new HP Printers still offer the "Scan to Print" option from the Printer's interface / touchscreen?

Not for this printer at least and within thi range or family of units
I was searching some 3rd party apps that could help you with that
