Hi @Denzo1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Scanner Error 13 on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dn typically indicates a scanner carriage or sensor issue. Since you've already reset and cleaned the unit, let's go deeper with targeted steps to restore scanning.

Step‑by‑step actions to resolve Scanner Error 13

1. Power reset and surface check

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power on.
  • Open the scanner lid and gently move the scanner lamp/carriage.
  • Ensure there’s no resistance, dust buildup, or obstruction along the scanner rail.

2. Check scanner lock switch

  • Some models include a physical scanner lock switch near the scanner bed or underside.
  • Make sure it’s in the unlocked position.
  • Locking prevents the scanner carriage from moving, which can trigger error 13.

3. Reconnect USB and test from HP App

  • Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable directly to a rear port on your PC.
  • Avoid using USB hubs or front ports.
  • Open the HP App and select your printer.
  • Try scanning from the app interface to confirm if the scanner initializes.

4. Update firmware and drivers

5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart your PC and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • If available, run the scanner test to check for mechanical or sensor faults.

Scanner Error 13 is often caused by a blocked or misaligned scanner carriage. By power resetting, checking the scanner lock, reconnecting USB, updating firmware, and running diagnostics, you can restore scanning functionality. Your cleaning and reset efforts were a great start—these next steps should help complete the recovery.
