Hi @David121212,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing issues with the scanner on your HP printer while using a MacBook. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Ensure Proper Driver Installation: Make sure the correct driver for your HP printer is installed. Visit the HP Support Website and download the latest driver compatible with your Mac OS version.

Check Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your MacBook via a USB port or network. If using a network connection, confirm that both devices are on the same network.

Use HP App: Try using the HP app, HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site, which is available on the Mac App Store, to manage your printer and perform scanning tasks.

Update Mac OS: Ensure that your MacBook is running the latest version of Mac OS. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues with devices.

Check Scanner Settings: Open the scanner in Preview or the Image Capture app on your MacBook to check if it is recognized. If not, it may indicate a connection or driver issue.

Check Privacy Settings: Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy and, under the Privacy tab, ensure that your scanner is allowed access.

Reset the Printing System: In System Preferences, go to Printers & Scanners, right-click on the printer list, and select Reset printing system. This action will remove all printers and scanners, allowing for a fresh setup.

Reinstall the Printer: After resetting, click the + button to re-add your printer and install the latest drivers.

Power Cycle Devices: Turn off both your printer and MacBook, then restart them to resolve any temporary connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
