Product: Photosmart 6520
Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

I cannot get my printer to scan by using the printer control pad (it says it cannot connect to my computer. However, I can get the printer to scan from the HP software on the computer. What do I need to do to get the connection to work from the printer to computer?

This type of scanning usually needs to be configured through either the toolbox software or the embedded web server. You need to create a shortcut. The reason for setup is that you will need to provide user credentials so that the printer has permission to write to the computer.
