I am unable to scan to a network folder. I have meticulously entered the folder path information in the EWS. I have tried using the IP address of the computer as well as the computer name but neither one works. When I enter all the information and attempt to scan my system appears to be working with no error messages, etc. but still the folder is empty. Any and all help is appreciated !

I am using windows 11. My printer is a 4301 mfp

I am having a problem with scanning to a network folder. I have carefully typed in the folder path in the EWS set up. I have double checked the folder permissions to be sure that they are correct for sharing. I don't use folder passwords so that is not an issue (leastwise it hasn't been an issue with other HP products) yet when I attempt to scan using the printer screen it goes through the motions then says that the job is cancelling. I'm at my wits end someone please help!

Thanks for your answer. I have a Laserjet Pro 4301 mfp. I used the ews to set up the scan to network folders. When I try to scan to a folder, my computer seems to go through all the motions but there is nothing scanned to the folder. I have carefully checked the settings and have not received any error messages as to paths, etc. I'll try some of the other methods that you outlined.

This question might be related to this customer's query posted in 2024 for a different (similar) printer model.

I answered.

Today I removed my own answer to the 07-Nov-2025 posts -

Why removed?

My answer, like those before it, did not solve the customer's issue.

Dragon Comments -

The feature has perhaps never worked and fails with two different printers.

To those who would answer, consider

Offered previously -

  • Check the way the printer is connected to the network - enable a static / manual IP address.
  • Recheck the permissions on the destination.  For example >> NAS?  Set destination folder to Shared AND Add destination folder to group Everyone / Everybody
  • Create a different destination for testing.  For example >> Scan content and try saving to a local folder in Windows computer:  Documents
  • Examples offered for EWS configuration - Scan to Network Folder

What about?

Install full driver printer software (in Windows) - Use HP Scan

OR

Install standalone HP Universal Scan software

Use HP Scan or HP Universal Scan to Scan content to a network destination folder.

HP Scan / HP Universal Scan method is not what the customer has requested but might suffice at least to test destination.

Example - HP Universal Scan - Scan - PDF - More > Destination

Select a local folder, for example, "Documents"

OR

Select a previously mapped network drive destination, for example, mapped as IP address and destination folder name

Reminders:

  • Destination Folder must be Shared and open read/write permissions for everyone.
  • Network destination / mapped locations require Shared, open to (and assigned to Group) Everyone, and login information (username / password) when the drive is first mapped
