I am trying to print a photo at size 5 x 7. Printer is all set up and working fine but ALL prints I've done have come out at 4.5 x 7 so are therefore too small for a frame. How can I get photos at the right size?

Hi MrSteve.

Here's a link to the Quick Prints projects in HP Photo Creations; 5x7 is one of the options:

If you don't have HP Photo Creations installed already, you'll be prompted to download it after clicking the Print my own button.

Here's a quick overview of printing common sizes:

Not sure what kind of printer you have -- HP Epsom is not a model with which I am familar.

In General, the shape of the original photo (image) must match the shape of the requested output to prevent oddly shaped (uneven) borders or a printed image that is too big or too small for the selected paper.

Aspect RatioThe ratio of the width to the height of an image or screen

Solutions depend on your printer software, that is the program you are using to print the image, your understanding of the problem, and what you want to accomplish.

  • For example, using a program that pre-sets many of the print settings for you can help you print your favorite photos:  HP Photo Creations

  • Choose to edit the original photo so it is the correct shape for your selected paper.

  • Use a simple photo editor and print program to print the photo "as-is" and minimize the uneven borders caused by the mis-match between the photo and the paper.

Thank you for your advice Dragon-Fur. I'm going to play around with this. The printer is preset to print 5 x 7 but prints small. I think it is printing with borders and I'm trying to remove that - no luck yet.
