Every time I try to print multiple copies with staples, it prints everything then staples it all together. I want each copy to get stapled separately. I can't find the proper setting to change this. Please help!

Hi @a-crane_35,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your question. We can definitely help with that!

What you’re experiencing, where all copies are printed and then stapled together as one stack, happens when the printer is set to collate all pages first and then apply the stapler once. What you want instead is for the printer to staple each set separately.

To guide you properly with the exact steps, we’ll need to know which HP printer model you have, because the menu options and driver settings vary slightly by model.

Please reply with:

📌 Your HP printer model name (e.g., OfficeJet Pro 9025e, LaserJet Enterprise MFP M631, PageWide Pro 477dw, etc.)

Once we have the exact model, we can give you step-by-step directions to:

  • Find the correct staple setting (e.g., “Staple Each Set”)
  • Adjust settings in the printer driver on your computer
  • Adjust settings on the printer control panel (if available)

Looking forward to your model info so we can help you get this set up exactly the way you want!

Take care and have an amazing day!

The printer in question is the:

HPE826

It has a Finisher and there is a "Staple" option, however, it does not present a "Staple Each Set" option as your email has described.  When multiple sets are requested to be copied (the "Collate" option set on), it prints the sets, but it states "Too many pages to Staple", so it merely collates the sets, but does not staple them.   The sets of pages size does not matter, even two pages it will not print is asked for 20 copies to be made.

It WILL staple just one set.

If you turn off the "Collate" option, it also does not staple, but it also does not collate, which is undesirable.

So, it will staple one set.  It will collate multiple sets.  It will not individually staple sets if more than one copy is requested.

Thank you for your time,

I'm having a similar issue at our firm. We are also using HP E877's and the HP Universal Printing PCL6 (v7.9) driver. In the Device Settings section of the Printer Properties, if I Mopier Mode is disabled, it will staple all sets together, or not staple at all. If Mopier mode is enabled, it will staple each individual set. However, if you also enable Job Separator in this menu, and then enable a Job Separator in Printing Preferences, if you also choose stapling, it will staple the job separator to each set instead of inserting it between sets. Some of our groups use a color paper for the job separators, and having to unstaple the job to remove this sheet is not ideal.
