I will probably buy another brand as I really don't like having an hour's worth of work and spending two hours to get the printer to work. Unplug, plug, delete, install...none of it works. You cant put new firmware on something that wont connect. Last HP device I buy for my family.

Let's try something first to see if the printer will recover. Sometimes printers get into weird states and just need to be power reset.
Perform a power reset:
First, make sure the printer is plugged straight into a wall outlet and not a power strip, surge protector or UPS.
With the printer plugged in and powered ON, disconnect the power cord from the printer. This will hopefully dissipate any electricity stored in the printer that could be hindering it.
Wait at least 30, to preferably 60 seconds.
If there is a power switch, turn it to the OFF position.
Plug the power cable back into the printer.
Turn the printer ON with the power switch.
If it's still stuck on Initializing, I'd try performing a print engine test:
1. Make sure that paper is correctly loaded in the tray.
2. Turn the product on. Wait for about a minute for it to be ready to test.
3. Open, and then close the toner-cartridge door five times within about two seconds to start the
internal engine-test.
4. If the engine test is successful, an engine-test page prints. The engine-test page has test patterns
including horizontal lines, solid black areas, and images. If the engine test did not run, let's move on to the next option.
Next, power OFF the printer, remove any/all toner/drum cartridges and power ON the printer with the cover closed, see what message(s) it gets. If it's still stuck on Initializing, you may need to reset the NVRAM or maybe even replace the formatter. If it shows to install/replace the toner/drum cartridge, begin replacing the item requested one at a time and closing the access door each time. Continue until the messages no longer come up for items. If you get stuck on Initializing after an item, then that item is likely the cause. Replace it with a new one.
