This printer is slightly over a year old. Have had no problems. Connected fax line the other day. Later I went to copy something, and the machine was off, tried to turn the power switch back on, no luck. Checked the cord, tried a different outlet, checked breaker. It's dead. I'm really frustrated.
The model number is listed above under product name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the outlet you're plugged into is working by plugging in a light or something that you can tell works when powered. I know you tried and checked different things, but this way will prove you have power.
If you do have good power at the outlet, unplug the printer from the power, make sure the power switch is left in the ON position too. Wait 45 minutes before trying it again. Sometimes when power supplies get tripped, it takes awhile before they will automatically reset (usually about 20 minutes I think, but 45 should be on the guaranteed side). Make sure the fax line, and any other cables, other than power, are removed when you try to power it up again.
If it still doesn't power up after that amount of time, then most likely the power supply is bad and would need replaced. Not a common occurrence. It's possible that the fax phone line caused the problem.

Not much difference. Just make sure the printer is powered ON when you unplug it. Once it looks like the power is completely off, press and hold the power switch for about 10-15 seconds a couple of times just to be sure it tries to drain the power fully. After about 45-60 seconds, plug it back in and power it up.

I have exactly the same question. After using the fax yesterday, I came in to my office this morning and my HP Laser Jet Pro M281fdw is as dead as a rock. I have now unplugged it. note below it says to make sure it is powered on when you unplug it. How do you do that when there is no power and the only indicator it is on is a light in the power button that clearly won't be on in any circumstance. Don't understand that comment.

Amazing. I unplugged. Pushed the power button for 15+ secs a couple of times. Waited 45 minutes. Plugged it back in and it now powering up.
It has now printed two documents so it is back among the living (in the printer world).
Thank you.
