Hello,

I have a HP LaserJet M14-17 printer.
As soon as I turn on the printer, it automatically pulls the first sheet of paper from the tray (without my input), but the paper only comes out halfway. It gets stuck at that point. I have to carefully remove it to get it out. I then try to print from my computer or scan directly from the printer, but nothing happens. The power button starts flashing at this point, indicating a problem with the printer.

I've checked:
the ink cartridge is in good condition and was replaced a month ago
there are no paper jams
the paper feeds straight and isn't crooked

Reminder:
=> As soon as the printer is turned on, a sheet of paper gets caught in the rollers, comes out halfway, and then jams. The on/off button remains lit throughout the entire process.

=> I unplug and then plug the power cord back in (after about ten seconds). Once the printer is powered on again, it ejects the other half of the first sheet but picks up another one, which also jams halfway. I carefully remove it. The on/off button remains lit throughout this process as well.

=> I try to print a document from my computer (or make a copy from the printer), but no print job starts. It's at this point that the on/off button starts flashing, indicating a printer malfunction.

Hi @Nathnath,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about thank you for reaching out. I can imagine how it must be to have your printer jam every time you power it on, especially when you’ve already checked the basics like the cartridge and paper alignment.

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

Check the paper type: Make sure you’re using paper that meets HP’s recommended specifications. Very thick, thin, or curled sheets can cause jams.

Inspect the rollers: Open the printer and gently clean the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Dust or residue can cause the rollers to grip incorrectly.

Reset the printer: Disconnect the power cord, wait at least 60 seconds, then reconnect. This clears temporary errors.

Check for firmware updates: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause unusual behavior. Updating may resolve the issue.

Try a different paper stack: Load a fresh stack of paper to rule out issues with the current batch.

If the issue persists after these steps, it may point to a hardware problem with the feed mechanism.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
