HP LaserJet M1522nf

We have an HP LaserJet M1522nf printer. The printer works fine (so far) and makes great copies except for the fact that there are little clumps of black toner INSIDE the glass. I tried taking the 5 top screws out but it doesn't seem to become loose. Can anyone tell me what else needs to be done in order to get the glass out or my hand or something in?

Thanks!

David

It has been a while but the grey plastic top piece of the control panel/disply just prys up and pops off. The actual display you have to press a post at the top and slide it to one side and it comes out. I assume you removed the adf assembly. See the attached for better instructions.

You need to remove the control panel display in the front which will give to access to the other screws that secure the flat bed glass. I assume the mark is on the flat bed part and not the strip of glass on the left side that is only used when the adf is used.

Does the front panel just pry off and then snap back, or are there screws that hold it someplace? I looked for some sort of diagram or Youtube video but so far haven't been able to find anything.

No I haven't. I'm trying to find how to do that now. Thank you for the pdf. I got the control panel loose and out of the way enough to get to the screws that need removing and so far guess I'll try to clean the glass without removing the adf assembly if possible, unless I find how to remove it in the next little while. I have things waiting to be copied after finally getting the glass cleaned off.

Got the top loose. Didn't get the lid off. It seems like it would just pull up and out of some slots on the back but there's a wire I didn't see any way to unhook.  Could touch the bottom of the glass but the smear isn't on the bottom or on the top but seems to be *inside!!* the glass itself. Seems impossible...

It mightbe that the image is burnt onto the glass. Then you will have to try and clean it with window cleaner.I sometimes use a metal polish and just polish the glass.Hope that this can solve your problem.

It doesn't appear to be on the inner or outer surface. Maybe there are 2 panes of glass and it somehow got in between them? If so maybe there's a way to separate them? Now I'm trying to figure out how to remove the lid (adf?) and then completely remove the top section with the glass mounted to it and maybe the secret will be revealed if that can happen. But I can't find anywhere how to remove the lid and so far haven't figured it out by looking and poking at it. I've looked for info on Youtube and other forums and different websites and a service manual for it but so far haven't found anything even referring to what seems from my ignorant position should be a very common problem with plenty of easy to find places explaining the solution.

It turns out that you don't have to remove the lid in order to remove the section that has the glass in it. It comes off with the lid still attached. Everything appeared to go great. Got the glass totally out of the frame and cleaned all the black smears off it so it's nice and clean. I was very much looking forward to that first print. Everything seemed to go back together with no problems. Didn't force anything. It was very simple. Never moved the scanner or anything like that. But now when it tries to boot up it gets to a certain point and starts making some grinding noises, then quits doing anything and shows the message Scanner Error 5 Turn off then on. After turning it off then on it just keeps doing the same thing over and over again.

Either you are obstructing the stepper motor in the rear right that drives the scanner assembly or the motor has burned out. Below are instructions for removing the adf since I really think you needed to have that off to put everything back together correctly. I would remove the adf and the scanner top cover again and move the scanner by hand to make sure it moves freely. If it does then reassemble.
