Hello,

I was unable to find an answer to my question when searching the forum, nor in the setup instructions that came with my printer.  If I have missed the answer somewhere, please forgive me.

I have an MFP M177fw, that I have setup for fax as well as everything else.

When someone calls my fax line and hangs up, I get a fax error report printed each time.  The error report simply states No Fax Detected, which would be correct.

I would like to turn the report off, as I am wasting paper and toner each time, which it turns out can be several times a day.

I can't seem to find a menu setting that would allow me to turn off the error report printing each time.

Thanks,

Jeff.

Yes! Finally, thank you. That did it. My wasting paper is over.

Why is this not documented anywhere in the product manual?

Hi Jeff14102,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I understand you would like to turn off the fax confirmation.

I will be happy to help you.

To change the fax confirmation on the printer select the setup icon, (wrench) fax setup,

fax setup utility, you will have 4 choices:
Yes on every fax.
Yes on send fax only.
Yes on receive fax only.
Never.

Select Never.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a great weekend!

Hi yukondeb,

I checked on our Lab Laserjet m177fw model for the exact settings.

To change the fax confirmations on the printer select the fax icon, fax menu, change defaults, fax setup utility.
You will be prompted the following:

Do you have to dial any digits, y/n.
Do you want a fax confirmation.
You will have 4 choices:
Yes on every fax.
Yes on send fax only.
Yes on receive fax only.
Never.
Select Never.
Finish the wizard and click OK.

Hope that works for you.

Thank You.

Hi Jeff14102,

That is a excellent question.

I don't know the answer to it though.

I had to go through the menus on the printer myself to find it.

You can print out a report for the menu structure but it wasn't on it either.

(go to setup, reports, menu structure to print it)

Have a great day!

Thank You.

The solution listed above DOES NOT WORK!  I've reset to Never several times and I still get a printed page every time a call comes in that is not a fax.

HP:  Please post the REAL solution.

Thanks.
