M276NW
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My M276NW laser jet recently started giving error codes of 50.2 or 50.4. If I try to print a document wirelessly it will give a 50.2. If I open the front door while powered up, it will give a 50.4 when the door is closed. If i power down and wait, it will initialize , most of the time, it has also given a couple of paper jam errors in the process of powering up and down, but as soon as I try to print I get the 50.2 code again. It will give a 50.4 code if I try to print a test page from the control panel. Is it possible the varying codes are an indication of a different problem?

The printer is about 3 years old, but only has 1144 printed pages recorded in the utility. I've recently replaced the black and magenta cartridges, for the very first time. Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed in the longevity of this machine.

Can anyone explain how to access the fuser so I can at least check to see if theres any debris causing the error? I understand all the covers need to be removed, but can't find a good description of how to do it. I'm very mechanically inclined.

TIA

So....if anyone else gets 50.2, or 50.4, fuser errors and you've replaced the fuser with no luck...

replace the fuser power supply, and the low voltage power supply at the same time. One part can damage the other so don't try to shortcut it.

Again, the people at laserxperts.com were extremely helpful. Great resource for HP printer tech and parts.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I'm not sure why I didn't find that on the HP site.

Now all I need is the courage to tear into it.

i always tell people the hardest part is just getting the covers off.  once you do that, follow the step by step and reverse.  I get in the habit of taking pictures before disconnecting wires or removing assemblies, just something to reference in case you get stumped.

I find, online, info regarding other models of HP laser prnters that reference some fuser tabs being out of place, and other youtube videos that talk about cleaning the fuser. Nothing for this model, however.

Have you ever been able to 'ressurect' a fuser, or have they all needed replacement? It doesn't seem possible that this item should fail, or be extremely dirty, with such a low print count.

Thanks for that info. It makes me feel like it's worth it to pull it apart to check before I order a fuser.

Any particular recommendation for what to use to clean? Alcohol?

It is too bad the unit has to be pretty much completely reassembled to check to see if it's fixed.
