LaserJet P1006 is shared on Windows 10 and printing from other devices on the network work fine, except for two-sided printing, which does not work. The first sides of pages print correctly, but then, the window asking to move the sheets does not appear, and the error light on the printer starts flashing. The only thing we can do is clear the error on the printer, but then the second sides are never printed and the print job just disappears.

According to the User guide, it shows that this printer does not support Automatic duplexing, you will need to do manual duplexing.

I know how to do manual two sided printing and it works fine when the printer is connected locally. It is when the printer is accessed through the network that manual two sided printing does not work. What happens is what I described in my post: all first sides are printed, error light goes on, no prompt asking to move the sheets back to the input tray.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Try to print.
Delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:
Remove the USB if connected
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-p1006-printer/3435682 for Basic Driver.
Try to print.

Hi - I have the same problem as you, but I can add some further insight which might help the HP tech guys actually solve the issue.
The popup window with the button to print the second side always appears on the host pc (ie, the computer the printer is attached to) rather than the client pc doing the printing.
I have Windows 10 pro installed on the host pc so I can remote desktop into it and click the button to print the second side, but this is not ideal (and not always practical) and it would be much better if I could make the window could appear on the client pc.
The same thing happens if the printer runs out of paper and you need to continue after loading more.

Hi EdC_LGM,
My problem is a bit different from yours. I have no problem with the fact that the pop-up window pops on the server (what you call the "host"). My problem is that it does not pop at all, neither on the server nor on the client that I am trying to double-side print from.
However, I have investigated further and found something. The problem seems to be related to the fact that the userid logged on the server is different from the userid used to connect to the network printer from the client. The userid logged on the server has no password and is not admin, whereas I connect to the printer with a userid that has a password (and admin rights) (I believe Windows will not let you connect with a userid that has no password).
When I log the password-protected admin userid on the server, and submit a printing job from the client (which is connected to the printer with the same userid), then the pop-up window correctly pops (on the server, which is fine for me) after the first sides have been printed.
This is not a solution to the problem, but I hope the info might help someone on the planet, having been puzzled so long by that problem!
