Hi @akil3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer is printing pages completely black and you’ve confirmed it is not a cartridge issue. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the print settings on the computer
Open the print dialog and verify that Background Fill, Watermark, or Poster printing is not enabled.
Incorrect settings can force the printer to lay down excessive ink or toner.

Print a printer self-test or quality report
Use the printer’s control panel to print a test or diagnostic page.
If the page is still fully black, the issue is likely hardware-related rather than software.

Clean the printhead (inkjet printers)
Run the Printhead Cleaning or Clean Ink System option from printer maintenance settings.
A clogged or electrically shorted printhead can cause continuous ink flow.

Check the drum or imaging unit (laser printers)
Remove the cartridge and inspect the drum surface for dark coating or damage.
A faulty drum or charge roller can result in solid black pages.

Power reset the printer
Turn the printer on and unplug the power cord from the back.
Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and turn the printer back on.

Try printing from a different application or device
Print a simple document from another app or device.
This helps rule out corrupted print jobs or driver-level issues.

Inspect for internal contamination
Ink or toner contamination inside the printer can cause uncontrolled printing.
This usually requires internal cleaning or replacement of the affected component.

I hope this helps.
