Using Laserjet 4 with Windows 10

Dear GStew or anyone:, I am trying to do exactly the same as you did. I found the 

hp laserjet 4 pcl 5e driver and did a download and unzipped it, so its 14 files are now on my C drive

But I don't know what to do next.

Seems like I have to run it somehow.

(When I downloaded it from HP there was a Run WinZip file but when I clicked on it it said "Not found on your system)

Help, anyone!

Hi Wyk1, I got stuck at the same point you have re what to do once the folder is downloaded. I don't know how, but when i subsequently did an Windows Update in the add printer sequence, HP4 showed up so I have it loaded and working on one new Windows 10 computer. I went back to replicate this on a 2nd Windows 10 computer with no luck so I am at a standstill on computer #2.

This is not HP4 (this does not exist), please select LPT1: (Port printer).

Otherwise, please follow the steps in the HP link Installing an Alternate USB Print Driver.

All good printing to the HP4 from my new computer #1. I tried to do the same setup on new computer #2 downloading the same drivers. Unlike on computer #1, on #2 I don't see HP 4 listed as a printer when I try to install the printer on #2.

Sorry, but not exactly sure what I did to get it working on #1 but having trouble on #2. {I tried so many things that I don't know which worked and which didn't}. Not sure if you have any advice. Is there some way of copying  a folder/driver from computer #1 to #2?

As per my posts below, I'm having trouble installing the HP4 on a 2nd computer so I'm trying the same steps which worked on computer #1. One suggestion was to install Laserjet 4000. When I look at available printers listed to install, I don't see Laserjet 4000. Where would I find this? Thank you again.

Dear Mans... you're a genius! Thanks much. Just bought a new W10 PC and have been trying for days to get my old HP 4 printer working on it through a USB to parallel cable. I used it for years on a W7 PC for special print jobs. I used your driver and procedure (although there was no HP4L driver in the list) to select the HP4 driver, and it works great. Thanks again.
