After upgrading the radius module, when I activated Forescout 802.1x, the only printer out of a lot of different models we have, the HP LaserJet 402dn the only one that didn't authenticate. Why?

Welcome to the HP Support community!

If the HP LaserJet 402dn is the only printer that did not authenticate after upgrading the RADIUS module and activating Forescout 802.1X, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some possibilities to consider:

  1. 802.1x Support: Ensure that the HP LaserJet 402dn supports 802.1X authentication. If it doesn’t, it will not be able to authenticate with the RADIUS server.

  2. Firmware Updates: Check if the printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Older firmware versions may not support updated security protocols or configurations introduced in the new RADIUS module.

  3. Network Configuration: Verify that the network settings on the HP LaserJet 402dn are correctly configured for 802.1X authentication. This includes ensuring that the correct authentication method (e.g., PEAP or EAP-TLS) and credentials are set.

  4. RADIUS Server Configuration: Ensure that the RADIUS server configuration specifically includes the HP LaserJet 402dn. This might involve checking the user or device entry in the RADIUS server for any missing or incorrect configuration.

  5. VLAN and Port Settings: Confirm that the network port to which the printer is connected is correctly configured for 802.1X authentication and that it aligns with any VLAN settings.

  6. Compatibility Issues: There may be compatibility issues between the Forescout 802.1X implementation and the printer model that require specific configurations or patches.

  7. Logs and Diagnostics: Consider checking the RADIUS server logs to pinpoint the authentication failure. Diagnostics from the printer itself may also provide clues.

Hope this helps you! If you need any further assistance, please feel free to reach out.
