HP LaserJet Pro M203dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have installed/uninstalled device software multiple times, followed every step exactly and cannot get the WiFi-direct to work from PC.  It works using my WiFi router no problem.  I have visited the printer web interface and confirmed that WiFi-direct is enabled.  I add printer in the Win 10 device set-up, I select identified WiFi-direct printer, and a hard copy of the pin prints out, which is valid for 90 seconds. I enter the PIN when prompted during the setup but after several minutes, I get message that printer is off line (when in fact it is not).  I am at a total loss, spent about 8 hours trying to figure this out.  Hoping to connect with someone who has similar issue?  I need to install this printer for a customer that does not have networking option, WiFi-direct is the only solution.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's restore the factory defaults of the Printer:

Go to the Printer's web interface, On the System tab, click Save and Restore in the left navigation pane. 3. In the Restore Defaults area, click the Restore defaults button. The printer automatically restarts.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello Betty,

This did not solve the issue.

In fact, it has set me back to the point where the device does not connect at all with the PC and I now have to uninstall everything and start from the beginning.  Unfortunately I think there is problem beyond what I can solve (ie HP or Windows bug).  It should not be this difficult to configure, and I note that other customers complain of similar issue.  I do appreciate your attempt to assist/support me to resolve my issue, and I am open to any other suggestions that you may have.

I just got this error message twice when entering PIN:

I enter the pin that prints out when adding the the device in Windows device manager

Add Pin for HP printer.JPG

Then I get error message that it did not work after about 5 minutes of trying to connect.  The Wifi light on the printer is blinking, not solid.
