HELLO ALL YOU CLEVER PEOPLE!

THIS IS MY FIRST POST SO GO EASY!

Does any one know what causes the lines in the photo attached?

I've tried cleaning etc but to no avail. I have just ordered a yellow replacement toner. but the one I have is 70% full. The printer has only done 3500 easy copies from new. Your help would be much appreciated. thanks Luke S

Hi David

Thanks for the reply and advice.

I fitted a new cartridge today which has solved the line problem, hooray!

I have looked at the faulty cartridge's internal transfer roller by lifting the sprung door, which appears perfect all the way around.  I may when I have time open up the cartridge to see if I can find any internal issues as its too old to return.

Curiosity also makes me what to see if I can understand what could cause toner to run across a print but leave a gap in the middle and be so symmetrical, may also be able to remove toner and transfer into the working one when getting low.

all fun and games! now where's that light saber!

If your lucky, this is just a defective yellow toner cartridge. You said you ordered a replacement, is it a genuine HP oem toner?

HP toners might be more expensive, but the quality is so much better and you get what you pay for. For the most part, HP has warrantied my customers toners when they are defective.

NON HP toners cause the most problems as a result of leaking seals on the edges of the cartridge drums, which cause toners lines on the edges of the paper. Yours looks like it has some type of contaminate on the drum itself, or possibly the photo conductive covering on the drum is acting wierd. Most cartridges you can take out of the printer, flip them over, and manually rotate the drum hands to inspect them. (not recommended if you are unsure of what you are doing. touching an imaging drum can leave contaminates on the drum surface, or leaving it exposed to light for too long can effect print quality)

I am not a HP employee. I am a service tech on these forums researching topics and offering my best guess to aide in your troubleshooting.

Hi Tonerspills

thanks for your quick reply. Its is a genuine hp cartridge that was working fine, then after a period of printer inactivity  (2 mths) it started producing these lines. I thought it was due to this inactivity that had caused these lines. I've printed many pages since as hp site recomended to clear the excess toner off this but this  has not stopped it happening. I will have a closer look at the drum as you suggested and when I get the new cartridge I will give an update on the issue. mtfbwy Luke

This printer has the perfect tool to narrow down the issue which looks like a toner cartrdige issue.  Just go to the diagnostics menu and choose the item disable cartridge check.  When the printer display says ready, diagnostics mode, open the front door and swap the yellow and magenta toners.  No go to the same diagnostics menu and print the pq troubleshooting pages.  If the lines still appear in yellow the issue is the toner and nothing else.  Put the toners back in the correct slots and exit diagnostics mode.  When ready go to the information menu and print the supplies status page.  If the yellow toner has over 20% of toner left, since you say it is oem hp toner, then return to place of purchase for refund or exchange.  HP original toners do come with a warranty.
