The new printer is a LaserJet MFP M234sdw.  I installed it on my laptop but nothing is working to install it on my Omen PC.

HI @FloridaSally,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw will not install on your second computer. Let’s go through a few checks.

Confirm Printer Network Status

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and shows a Ready status.
  • Print a Network Configuration Report from the printer control panel.
  • Verify the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Omen PC.
  • Note the printer’s IP address from the report.

Remove Previous or Partial Installations

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove any existing instances of the LaserJet M234sdw.
  • Press Windows key + R, type printui /s /t2, and press Enter.
  • Under the Drivers tab, remove any LaserJet M234 series drivers.
  • Restart the computer.

Install Using TCP/IP Address

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click Add device and wait.
  • Select Add manually.
  • Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
  • Select TCP/IP Device as the device type.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address.
  • When prompted, select the HP LaserJet M234 series driver (not Fax).
  • Complete the installation and print a test page.

This method bypasses automatic discovery issues.

Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Ensure Print Spooler is Running. If not, right-click and select Start.
  • Locate Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication.
  • Ensure both are set to Automatic and Running.
  • Restart the PC after confirming.

Temporarily Disable Firewall for Testing

  • Open Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Select Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  • Temporarily disable it for Private network only.
  • Attempt installation again.
  • Re-enable the firewall immediately after testing.

If the printer installs successfully using the IP method, the issue is typically related to network discovery rather than the printer itself.

I hope this helps.
