I am on the verge of tears with this same problem too. My boss purchased this exact printer for me to replace the previous, very old one. I print PDFs almost daily. I have spent the last 2 hours trying to print a 15-page, colored PDF. Earlier, my 3-page PDF came out after 45-minutes. This is absolutely ridiculous. Even my last printer would start printing a document immediately. Sadly, at first I thought I was having a driver issue until I realized it was the printer. Ugh. Please help, someone!!!

hi, i believed that it is a driver or compatibility issue... i removed windows 10 on one of the laptop and it is printing properly without any problem with Windows 7 professional.
I then installed Windows 7 pro on the other ones (2 laptops) and we dont have any problem with printouts anymore. everything is working for months now.

I own multiple HP MFP m477FDW a high end expensive model that’s HP sells.
What I find ridiculous is no one has a solution to this problem. All of the above things you asked us to do have been done multiple times and the issue was never resolved.
THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN TO HIGHER UP LEVELS. The issue happens often and usually with PDFs and anything that has pictures is slow as hell.
This is a huge flaw. Especially when we spend 700$ plus on printers.
I also have the latest Mac OS software. My printer is fully up to date. My router is brand new. It does the same thing even when it’s not on wifi. Some times with a cable a PDF prints really slow.
HP needs to solve this problem. It’s most likely a major software flaw. I mean older generation colour laserjets I’ve owned never gave me that issue. I also own and operate two HP office jet 8620 pro. They not one single time printed slow like your colour laserjet pro series.
So I want a final answer. I’ve done all the above you have suggested and I’m sure everyone here has done that even before you recommended it. Problem NOT SOLVED.
I wish people were more persistent as to nagging HP and not letting this slide. accepting below standard functionality is why companies never improve.
Stop accepting this so maybe HP engineers can do something about this once and for all. Such a large company. Why is this even a problem.

Mine has slowly been getting slower and slower until today when it would just spin and spin, it took about 2 mins.
I can see this has not always worked for others, but the tip to shut it off and turn it on again did work for me, for now
anyway!

too bad you guys are still having an issue with this..
we are all using laptops due to frequent travels.. after removing Winidows 10 on all laptops and installing Windows 7 pro, we dont have any problem with this printer anymore and its like 1year has past now. good luck!

Hp, you need to get to the bottom of this. I spend 600$ on a laserjet printer and i expect it to print fast. This trash has everyone going absolutely insane. I would love to understand how you guys put out a printer that cant print colour PDF's at a even decent rate. My hp officejet pro can print 6000X faster.
First the excuse was the Wifi network, was lied to by Hp engineers and told its an issue with my network and viruses. Clearly a sham that was! so no problem, i decided to connect my 600$ printer to a **bleep** USB cable as if i live in the stone ages. Did that, still cant print at a normal printer pace. What is this that is going on. Please DO NOT tell me its my OS or the updae on the firmware, i have tried absolutey everything and nothing has changed, windows, mac USB, wifi nothing changes. This is clearly a hardware issue. To me it seems like the ram is just not enough. Which is absolutelt strange to me. How can it NOT handle large documents? Its a very expensive high end laser colour printer. If this issue is not solved ASAP, I will make a youtube video smashing this thing to pieces with a baseball bat and leaving the worst review of HP products till the day I take my last breath on this planet. I will have my youtuber friends also sham this product to hell, they have close to a million subscribers and i am just about fed up. I will do it ! SOLVE THIS

Will try the saving paper type, size, tray and report back.
Was slow, especially with photos, with macos 10.12. Seems to have gotten worse with 10.14 even after trying various fixes: Upgraded firmware to newest with date code "20190712"
Removed/reinstalled. Changed to factory defaults. Disabled IP-V6.
Trying Airprint and/or GenericPS drivers.
Will report back if any improvements/fixes, but this seems clearly to be a printer issue. How can we escalate this with HP???
