5.11.20 – pressed firmware update on display of printer

Now have error message Supply problem

Apparently new firmware has locked out 3rd party tonners

Spoke to HP technical and they tried to reset the printer but it has not rolled back the firmware

Very annoying as only other suggestion to get printing was to buy a full set on genuie toners!

Kind of stinks that during a pandemic HP have made a conscious decision to lock out all customers printers if they didn’t really think about pressing the update. There was certainly no warning that the new firmware would render the printer useless without spending £100’s

Anyone had the same issue, know how to roll back the firmware how it came out of the box?

Exactly the same on the LaserJet Pro M254dw.

Firmware auto-updated and locked out third-party toner.  

I've now turned off auto-update and turned on firmware downgrade but low and behold all the older firmware are no longer available.

Sort it out HP - very disappointed.  At the very least make HP_Color_LaserJet_Pro_M254_dw_Printer_series_20200612.exe available for me and the equivalent for the printer owned by the person above who is in the same boat.

Update 

I used the update firmware program that I found on the HP website, before they updated that.

I rolled back from 20201021 to 20200612 and my printer now works again.

The firmware program is 34meg so too large to email, but can be downloaded from this FTP link – available for 7 days before auto deleted.

My printer is connected wireless and to get the firmware program to work I had to delete the existing printer from my laptop, reinstall printer with a printer/USB cable and then could revert back to wireless printing.

Hope it helps and 2 fingers up to HP for their Cartel approach in a pandemic!!

Thank you - I have been wondering what caused the "supply error" only to discover the con HP is running. I just used the genuine cartridges till recently so was not a problem and this week can't progress beyond the error screen.

This is just a scam HP is running and should be ashamed for such practice which is against the law.

Je viens d'installer l'ancienne version du micrologiciel mais cela ne fonctionne toujours pas!

Je suis vraiment très déçu de la part d'HP qui n'avait pas besoin de faire cela en pleine pandémie et confinement!!!
