is there ANY way to align the cartridges w/o the scan method (i've tried that repeatedly. it won't work)?!
otherwise this is a mighty expensive paperweight.

Hello paradive,
I understand you are trying to complete an alignment on your DeskJet 2510. The only way to complete the alignment is to use the scanner glass. Can you let me know what error messages you are getting? Is this alignment failing? Have you recently replaced the cartridges?
I will watch for your reply.
Thank you,

i've tried doing it that way, each time positioning the scan page differently (except facing up) at least 5 times each way.
each and every time, getting: "Alignment failed!
To retry the alignment, ensure that you have the placement page correctly on the scanner, then click the Scan button."
i can't even get it to legibly print one single sentence!
this is going down as one of my all-time worst purchases.

Hello paradive,
I appreciate how frustrated you are and want to help you. I would like you to go ahead and start Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues. I understand you are not able to get a successful print right now but most of the time when the alignment fails it is due to the cartridges so running through the print quality document is usually a quick fix for the alignment failing.
Also be sure to check the ink levels and make sure all cartridges have ink in them, as this could also cause the alignment to fail. If you are still running into problems after the print quality troubleshooting please let me know and we can try a reset on your Deskjet 2050a .
Please make sure to read the HP Privacy Statement. I will watch for your reply.
Thanks again,

That is great 🙂 Please consider marking Message 4 as "Accept as Solution" so that anybody else in the HP Community who may be experiencing an alignment failed error message will know what to do.
Thank you! 🙂
