laserjet p1102w
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The printer has worked fine for several years but has recently developed a problem (last 2 - 3 weeks). There is a manual option for doublesided printing in which after the first sides are printed, a window shows on the PC telling you to turn the paper and click when this has been done. Either the window with these instructions does not appear, or else it appears but the printer does not respond when I click that I have turned the paper over.

No error message appears on the PC, but sometimes the red X button lights on the printer. The paper is not jammed. I connect wirelessly to the printer and have always done so.

Hi,

ZA such may appen due to any bi-directonal connectivity problem.

Is the printer connected with a USB or wirelessly?

As a workaround you may reload the pages once the printer starts blinking, then open and close the top cartridge access door to resume the 2nd side printing.

Please let me know if that helps,

Shlomi

Hello

Thanks for your suggestions but does not work. As stated above, I am connected wirelessly. If I lift the toner lid, I lose any subsequent printing. I am pretty sure this problem is related to double sided printing.  Single sided, with one side or two sides to page are fine. Something about the prompt has stopped working. A workaround for double sided is to print pages 1, 3, 5, 7 etc, then flip the paper and select print 2, 4, 6, 8 etc, but HP software should be better than this, and it used to work fine.

Hello,

I also have the exatly same problem. The printer worked fine for years, until it developed this problem a few weeks ago. A year passed since the last forum post. Is there any solution since then?

I had the same problem too with my HP Laserjet P1102. Try going to Device Manager, then manually removing the device. Detached the USB cable (or disconnect wirelessly), and re-connect the USB cable/network to the computer (pls ensure connected to internet), and wait for it to reinstall the printer drivers again. This should solve the problem. The dialog window asking to re-insert the paper for two sided printing pops up ok after I did this. Rgds, Eric

Thank you, Eric! I tried your method and it worked rightaway. Perfect!

Until now I always opened the toner lid as a workaround.

I'm on a MacOS Sierra and the double side stopped working for me too and for the life of me I couldn't figure it out until I saw this forum.   It is now fixed with the opening and closing of the cartridge cover.  It's annoying but at least it works.

Thank you everyone!
