Most 49 errors are resolved with a firmware update but sometimes there are a couple of more steps required. First off, disconnect any network connections or usb cables and then power the device off and then on again. If it come sto ready without a network cable attached and you are able to print any reports from the control panel of the printer such as the config page or usage page, then likely the printer is fine and the continuing 49 error is the result of a corrupted print job. You can verify this by reconnecting the network cable and watching the control panel.  Once the printer reestablishes a network connection if it again hangs at a 49 error then you have network traffic causing your issue. Make sure that no workstation or print server has a stale print job. If you are quick you may be able to cancel exiting jobs from the control panel before they freeze the unit. If the device 49 errors even when in stand alone status, then you may have either corrupt firmware or a hardware failure. I have seen cases where a defective modem will cause this issue, so if you have a modem in it, power down, remove the modem and try restarting. Performing a disk format and fresh firmware update from the preboot menu may also resolve the issue.
