@adacosta,

49.XX.XX

Explanation:

A critical firmware error occurred.

49 errors are unrecoverable exception errors in product firmware. When a 49 error occurs, the user sees a 49.XX.XX message on the control panel (where XX.XX is replaced by a combination of numbers and letters). A 49 error might happen at any time for multiple reasons. Although some types of 49 errors can be caused by hardware failures, it is more common for 49 errors to be caused by printing a specific document or performing some task on the product than it is for a hardware component to be at fault.

Most commonly, 49 errors occur when a product is asked to perform an action that the product firmware is not capable of and might not have been designed to comply with, such as:

· Printing files with unsupported programming commands.

· A unique combination of user environment and user interactions with the product.

· Interfacing with a third-party solution that was not designed to work with the product.

· Specific timing, network traffic, or concurrent processing of jobs.

Each of these interactions could cause the product firmware to initiate an action that the product cannot accomplish. In situations like this, the product might present the error if it has no other option. When these errors occur, the only way to recover is to turn the products power off and back on.

NOTE: LaserJet formatter PCA’s are rarely the root cause of 49 service errors. Please do not replace the formatter or Flash unless troubleshooting has identified the formatter as the root cause.

I suggest that you try to upgrade your printer's firmware first.

That is not working.  Forgot to mention, afer the code number it states "device failure"

This is an unregistered error code. Try doing a FULL NVRAM Initialization then.

Now I have the printer running and in the ready to print mode, but I cannot locate it on the network.  How do I find the IP address?  Did it get changed during the hard reset?

What did you do to fix the error then?

Go to "Configure Device" -> I/O Menu -> EMBEDDED JETDIRECT -> Information -> IPV4 SETTINGS -> Config Method

There you can config if you want DCHP or Manual addressing.

In order for the IP address to appear on the screen you have to do the following:

Go to "Configure Device" -> System Setup -> Show Address and change it to AUTO.

I hope that helps.

Cheers!

My 49 error says "DEVICE FAILURE".  After Initializing the NVRM and attempting to connect the USB cable (the printer was an IP address printer before this error), I am unable to update the firmware.  Wouldn't it be logical to replace the Formatter PCA at this point, as the only function I can perform is the INIT of NVRAM?  This is the only command that seems to work from either the printer menu, or from IP.  It will not respond to anything else.

Also, when the printer attempts to boot, when the screen says "5/6", on the right there's a letter code I've never seen before: "B/F".  Any idea what this may mean?  Does B/F = "Bad Formatter"?

Thank you.

- It could be that or something else.

- No, it does have to do with that. It is just a step of the initialisation process.

In this stage, that "device failure" could be anything. I would start by checking all the connections, including the ones from the scanner and ADF. Reseat every connector and check the flat cables if they have damaged pins.

I have this error (49.FF03 Device Failure) on one of my printers(HP Color LaserJet CP4025).  How do I do a "FULL NVRAM Initialization?"
