How do I reset the factory default password on HP Laserjet Pro MFP M281 without being online?

 Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the admin password on your printer. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. It will be a delight to assist you here.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this occur after changing your router or ISP?
  • Are you able to log into the EWS page of the printer from a computer browser?

For now, try these steps:

  • Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2Jz3s4a and follow instructions from the section “Step 2: Reset the printer
  • Then restore factory defaults on the printer from this user guide link: https://hp.care/2kcwNG3 refer to page 96 for steps on how to do it.
  • This should fix the issue. If it continues, then I will send a private message on how to perform an NVRAM reset on the printer or a super NVRAM reset on the printer that should fix the issue.
  • Please check your Forum private message box for instructions from me on how to perform an NVRAM Reset or a Super NVRAM Reset.

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.
