fax without phone line from printer?

Does this ever work? Do I need a phone line to fax from my multifunction HP printer or can it use internet connections? Many thanks!

You can subscribe HP Mobile fax through the HP APP but this only offers out going fax ability.

Without an actual phone line you would need to subscribe to an internet fax service which often works by you emailing the document to the server of the supplier of the fax service and it does the faxing and emails back incoming faxes to you.
