The new bought today 63xl does not registure.

It will not run a clean procedure. The old one is out of ink, but the printer does recognize it.

@CrapPrinter,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are getting Incompatible ink cartridge on your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Did you purchase the ink cartridges from the country you purchased the printer or is it from a different country?

Have you tried to clean the electrical contact on the cartridge?

Have you tried to update the printer firmware?

Let's start off by updating the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website. Once done, restart the printer. For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to do a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - 'Incompatible Ink Cartridge' or 'Ink Cartridges Missing' Error Displays

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thanks for responding. So first, I don't fly to foreign countries to buy ink cartridges. I bought at Costco. It does not say incompatible. It says at least one of the cartridges has a problem. It is as if the firmware has been programmed not to recognize a 63 XL.  The old 63 cartridge goes back in fine. I tried the power cycling, no change. Firmware states that it is up to date. Cup1fn1830ar. I power cycled with the new cartridge installed. Same error.

@CrapPrinter,

Thank you for replying,

As you have mentioned in your previous post that you have tried to check with the old ink cartridge and it seems to work fine, this could indicate that the problem could be with the new ink cartridges.

You can try to contact our HP phone support to get the ink cartridges replaced.

HP phone support can be reached on www.hp.com/contacthp.

Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
