When printing a document, my laser printer prints a line of characters across the top of the sheet vice the document. It prints 1 line of characters per sheet and continues until I remove the paper from the try.

Hi @Burch-1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Laser MFP 137 FWG prints a line of characters instead of the actual document content, it could indicate an issue with the print command or a communication problem between your computer and printer. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

Check the Print Queue:

  • Ensure there are no stuck jobs in the print queue. Clear the queue and restart the print job.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Power off the printer and your computer. Wait for a minute before turning them back on. This can resolve any temporary glitches.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download the latest drivers from the Official HP® Support.

Check for Printer Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer firmware can resolve such issues. Check for any firmware updates via the Official HP® Support.

Check the Document:

  • Try printing a different document to ensure the issue is not with the file. If the new document prints fine, the original file might be corrupted.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page from the printer menu to check if the printer itself is functioning correctly.

Check Cable Connections:

  • If you are using a USB connection, ensure that the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Consider trying a different cable.

Change Print Settings:

  • Open the printer properties in your computer's settings and ensure all settings are properly configured.

Reset the Printer:

  • Reset your printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
