Hi @callmedangi

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. Let’s carefully go through the steps to get your HP LaserJet 1020 Plus working on macOS 26.3.1 Tahoe.

Understanding the situation:
The HP LaserJet 1020 Plus is a host-based printer, which means macOS does not include built-in drivers for it. To make it work, you’ll need to ensure the correct setup using available macOS printing options.

Steps to follow on macOS:

Check Printer Connection

  • Ensure the USB cable is firmly connected between the printer and your Mac.
  • Power on the printer and confirm it is in a ready state.

Add the Printer in macOS

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
  • If the LaserJet 1020 Plus appears in the list, select it.
  • If macOS does not automatically find a driver, choose Generic PostScript Printer or Generic PCL Printer from the driver options.

Install HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Mac.
  • Check if the printer is detected. If not, try adding it manually through the app.

Print a Test Page

  • Once added, print a test page from the printer settings to confirm functionality.

Reset Printing System (if needed)

  • If the printer does not respond, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  • Re-add the printer following the steps above.

Summary:
The HP LaserJet 1020 Plus requires manual setup on macOS since drivers are not preloaded. Using the HP App and macOS’s built-in generic drivers usually resolves the issue. Ensure the printer is connected properly, add it through Printers & Scanners, and test with a generic driver if the specific one is unavailable.
