Color LaserJet Pro M252dw
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I have had this Color Laser Pro M252dw for about 3 years and up to just 2-3 days ago, all was well. It is connected via network cat6 with the only computer in my network being an iMac (iMac Retina 5K, 27" Late 2015, Processor: 3.2GHz Intel Core i5, Memory: 24GB 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM). Now (I am unaware of anything happening to cause something like this) the printer must be turned off then turned back on in order to print anything. Or I can simply open the front door (cartridge replacement door) and that will get the same result: whatever is in the queue will print. Then when I want to print another document, I must start the entire off-then-back-on process all over again. I have updated the firmware (datecode: 20180205, with total onboard memory: 256 MB). I have deleted the printer driver several times, each time taking note of how the driver (I believe v19.13) was installed. I have also tried HP's own "HP Easy Start" with no better results. I'm out of options. I want it back to where when I sent a job to the printer, it printed it (like my HP p1606dn mono-chrome laserjet). Suggestions?

Check the sleep mode settings and look for the events settings. This controls what can bring a printer out of sleep mode and it is possible to turn everything off so that powering off is the only way to wake-up the printer.

Well, I fixed my problem (sort of). Hewlett-Packard describes their firmware updates as a not-for-all-but-for-most update. Evidently I fell into the not-for-all category with the "49" error code. I went to the embedded web server for the answer - a simple one really. I was getting the "49" error that described my problem exactly (not coming out of sleep). The probable fixes listed as: turning the unit off and unplugging it from the power (for an unspecified amount of time - I went away and had a cup of coffee). Before reconnecting the power, I disconnected it from my little network and reconnected it via a USP port. The new iMacs don't give you many so I sacrificed my external Super Drive. I'll reconnect it later to the 4-port, powered USB hub to see if the Super Drive is recognized by the iMac. Anyway, after connecting it via USP, and powering up the printer, the correct driver automatically came up in to the Printers and Scanners window. I then tried printing an Adobe .pdf document and voilá!! SUCCESS!! Just to make sure this wasn't just a one-off, I printed another document from another program (MSWord): SUCCESS. So there you have it. I am hoping that, at some point in the future, HP comes out with a newer firmware update (newer than 20180205). But for the immediate future, it's USB for me. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.

If this is a repeat, I am sorry. I am not too familiar with this forum.
