Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer is connected to network via wifi.

Laptop finds and installs printer.

Can't print.

Using MS printer troubleshooter triggers printing and pages print flawlessly. Message: unable to find problem.

Next day, same procedure.

I am usually pc literate, but this has me stumped. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Hi, the suggested process did not work. I had to download different versions of installer packages and eventually found a complete installer package and this worked, so that I can now print from the laptop.

On my desktop it still says the printer is offline and when it starts printing W10 tells me I can't print, but that's mere cosmetics as long as it prints what I need.

Thanks for the suggestion and support.

@Frustratedsquar,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

@Frustratedsquar,

I'm glad to hear it seems to be working fine on your notebook. However you seem to have an issue while printing from your Desktop.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  6. Try to print. If the printer remains offline, continue to the next step.

If the light is steady blue, then the printer is connected to the network. If the light is flashing, then the printer is not connected to the network. Go to Setup - Network - Wireless setup wizard to connect the printer to the network.

Once the printer is connected to the network, then assign a static IP to the printer:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Create TCP/IP Port:

1. Search Windows for devices, and then select "Devices and Printers" In the list of results.

2. Right-Click the name of your printer, and then select Printer Properties.

3. Click the Ports tab, click on "Add port" select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "New Port"

4. Click next on the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard, enter the printer IP address and click next and then click on "OK".

5. Now under the "Ports" tab you will find the newport with the printer IP address, click "Apply" and "OK".

6. Restart the computer.

7. Now try to print and check if that works.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance!

Hi,

Thanks for trying to help.

It's always the same thing, which is why the steps described in your text block are not applicable. The printer is connected and just as with the MS troubleshooter, running the HP troubleshooter does exactly the same thing.

When I run it once. it stalls and when I run it a second time I can print a test page without a hitch.

A printer driver with an attitude.

Just wanted to check if you have followed the steps from the previous post such as assigning Manual IP address and creating a TCP/IP Port.

If you haven't followed the steps suggested and still having the issue. I would recommend you uninstall the printer from the root level and then create a new User account.

You may follow the steps from this support document to create a new user account - Click here

Once the account is created. Go ahead and restart the computer and then login to your new User account.

Now on the new user account, go ahead and install the full feature software from the printer.

Let me know the outcome!

Thank you 🙂
