Hi @saiii1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how jolting it feels when your trusted HP LaserJet Pro suddenly flashes “Cartridge Memory Missing”, especially when you just want a smooth print and instead get a message that feels like a closed door. Don’t worry, we’ll walk through this together, step by step.

Remove & Reinstall the Affected Cartridge(s)

This is the most common fix and often clears the error immediately.

Steps:

  • Open the front door of the printer.
  • Gently remove each affected toner cartridge (e.g., Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow).
  • Inspect the gold contact chip; it should look clean, smooth, and undamaged.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Close the front door and let the printer reinitialize.

📌 Why this matters: If the cartridge isn’t seated perfectly, the printer can't “feel” the cartridge’s memory chip.

Power Cycle the Printer (Hard Reset)

Sometimes the printer just needs a fresh breath.

Steps:

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

📌 This forces the printer to recheck the cartridge memory.

Clean the Cartridge & Printer Contacts

Dust or residue can block the chip connection like a thin film over a lens.

Steps:

  • Use a dry, lint‑free cloth.
  • Gently wipe the cartridge contacts.
  • Also, wipe the matching contacts inside the printer.

📌 Even tiny dust particles can interrupt the chip signal.

Check if the Cartridge is a genuine HP

HP printers may reject non‑HP chips or modified cartridges, especially after firmware updates.

👉 You can verify your cartridge here: HP anti-counterfeit | HP® Official Site

📌 Non‑HP or previously working refilled cartridges may suddenly stop being recognized after firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
