my HP laser jet printer MFP M232E-m237E is displaying error 75 and error 61. I am unable to resolve these problems even using diagnostics. I removed the printer from my PC and tried to re-install it but was unable to do so wirelessly. I resolved to doing it via USB cable and although I was successful in downloading basic drivers I still cannot print. HP are not providing a helpline where I can speak to a live assistant. I have spent a lot of time trying to fix the problem myself but was unable and I feel very let down by the printer and by HP support.

OW_4XX_0WSWS00001 - does anyone know how to fix this please?

Hi @Olga441,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how exhausting it can be to tackle error 75 and error 61 on your HP LaserJet M232E–M237E, especially after countless attempts and hours spent without success. Let’s work through each issue together with clear steps and empathetic support.

Understanding the Errors

  • Error 75: Indicates a continuing paper jam or related issue, signals that the printer's internal memory has logged a persistent jam.
  • Error 61: Occurs during failed Wi-Fi connection attempts, notably when WPS setup fails.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Resolve Error 75 (Paper Jam Remnants)

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for 30 seconds.
  2. Carefully inspect every paper path:
    • Input tray, output bin, duplexer (if equipped)
    • Inside the cartridge chamber with toner removed
  3. Make sure no fragments or bits of paper remain.
  4. Gently clean rollers and input surfaces with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  5. Plug the printer back in and power it on; error 75 should be cleared.

2. Clear Error 61 (Wi-Fi Setup Fail)

  1. Press the Cancel (✖) button on the printer panel to dismiss the error.
  2. Restart wireless setup, avoid using WPS.
  3. Set up your Wi-Fi through:
    • The HP Smart app, or
    • The printer’s Wireless Setup Wizard (control panel).
  4. Ensure you enter the correct SSID and password when prompted.

3. Perform a Hard Reset & Firmware Update

  1. Hard reset the device:
    • Power off, disconnect the power cord for 60 seconds, then re-plug and power on.
  2. Check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app's Advanced Settings → Printer Update or Firmware Update section.

4. Reinstall and Reconnect via USB (if wireless still fails)

  1. Connect the printer directly using a USB cable.
  2. Remove and reinstall:
    • HP USB printing support via Windows Devices and Printers
    • HP Smart app, then use it to Add a Printer over USB.
  3. Confirm that USB mode prints work before attempting wireless setup again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
