possibly a bad nic port on the formatter?

There are 2 types of formatter boards. One has an on board nic port. Its physically attached to the board (being you said dn model, i would think this would be the type you have). The other formatter board type has a removeable JetDirect Nic card.

It detaches from the I/O slot with 2 screws. If you have this type, you probably have a bad JetDirect card or you can try a different slot-

Print a configuration page  admin/reports/config page- do you see any network information or a JetDirect page with that?

Do you see the IO settings using this procedure?

Press Menu.

select CONFIGURE DEVICE

select I/O

select EMBEDDED JETDIRECT MENU

I am not a HP employee. I am a service tech on these forums researching topics and offering my best guess to aide in your troubleshooting.
